If I Was Starting Over, Here’s Exactly What I’d Do Differently

If I could hop in a time machine, go back to day one of my coaching business, and take everything I know now with me… oh, the time, money, and late-night spirals I’d save.

So if you’re in that “where do I even start?” season — or maybe you’re feeling like you need a fresh start right now — here’s exactly what I’d do differently if I was starting over today.

1️⃣ Keep the Tech Simple (and Smart)

Tech overwhelm is real, but it doesn’t have to be. If I was starting from scratch today, I’d pick just one all-in-one platform or a couple simple tools, and I’d stick with them.

    • Option 1: Podia for an all-in-one — basic all in one option. If you are starting out, selling courses, sending emails, etc. Podia is fantastic. If you don't need the complicated funnels, analytics, communities, etc. Then podia is a perfect option.

    • Option 2: Flodesk if you do nothing else and just start your email list. This is where you start. The easiest email builder on the market.

You don’t need a thousand logins. You just need a setup that works — and then you need to work it.

2️⃣ Protect My Brain Space (Unfollow the Noise)

Back then, I followed every other coach in my niche because I thought it would motivate me. Spoiler: it didn’t. It made me compare every post, every offer, every word. I would get motivated and then see someone post about their new program or their new offer and it would set me back.

If I was starting today? I’d unfollow every direct “competitor” and fill my feed with inspiration outside my industry — think: business mentors, creatives, real-life friends who remind you to touch grass. 😉

3️⃣ Keep My Offers Clean & Clear

    One freebie to build trust.
One tiny low-ticket to warm people up.
One main offer to serve them deeply.

That’s it. Not a million random products. Not a new idea every other week. One clear, simple funnel that I could get behind every single day.

Then I would stop "tweaking" those offers over and over again. I would focus all my time beyond the offers on driving my ideal clients to my email list.

4️⃣ Make Email List Growth The Metric

Forget the follower count — it’s rented land. Your email list? You own that. If I was starting over, I’d measure growth by how many real people raise their hand to hear from me every week.

I’d nurture that list like crazy — because when social takes a nap (or throws you an algorithm curveball), your list keeps working.

5️⃣ Stick With It (Really Stick With It)

Here’s the one that stings: I’d give it six months before I’d let myself pivot or panic.

Too many times you jump ship on an idea too soon — when it just needed more time and consistency to take root. If you’re starting over, promise me this: stick with your plan for at least six months. Tweak along the way, sure — but don’t burn it down because you didn’t go viral on day 12.

    Final Thoughts

If you’re in the messy middle, or starting fresh, or dreaming of wiping the slate clean — maybe this list gives you permission to simplify how you build.

Keep your tools simple. Keep your brain uncluttered. Build your list like it’s gold (because it is). And stick with your plan longer than feels comfortable.

It’s not magic. But it works — and you’ll thank yourself for it down the road.
